Wimbledon will follow the US and Australian Opens in utilizing replay technology.
Video review technology are set to arrive at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.
Athletes will gain the right to contest specific calls made by the official, mirroring the system already in use at each of the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
The new system is slated for use on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles matches.
This move arrives only a season following the AELTC implemented electronic line calling, which effectively ended the 147-year role of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Players cannot to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to ask for the umpire to review specific situations, including:
- Whether a ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or body on the way past.
- Potential interference end of a rally.
Notably, there will be no cap on the amount of challenges a player can initiate.
A Recent Example
An illustrative incident occurred in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against his opponent.
Draper admitted it was a difficult situation for the official, but thought his opponent had "played the rules effectively."
The umpire viewed a replay and ruled the player was responsible for interference, granting the rally to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
This technology are not new for Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have the system implemented at all of its events.
Additional Innovations
Another innovation at The Championships 2025 involves the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses instances where fans have sometimes been unsure whether a ball was out or in.
In other news, with exactly a century of days remaining until the start of the tournament, organizers have also revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
